1.Geographical Location
Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (short as “XSI”) is located in Paitou Area, Haicang Taiwanese Development Zone, Haicang District, Xiamen, one of the most enchantingly beautiful cities in China. It enjoys many geographical advantages richly endowed by nature:
To the east, there is Xinglin bay, and shares Xiamen port’s main channel with Dongdu Terminal which is 870 meters away across the sea; to the south, Haicang Bridge leading to Xiamen island where is politically and economically the center of Xiamen; to the west, Haicang Avenue leading to Haicang Bonded Port; and to the north, a train freight hub terminal.
2.Infrastructure, Personnel & Business Scope
XSI covers an area of over 500,000㎡, and has a deep-water coast with the length of 1.5 Kilometer. So far, XSI has 1 dock (80,000 DWT), 2 slipways (50,000 DWT and 80,000 DWT respectively), 3 wharfs (Length: 289m, 275m, 197m respectively; Water Depth: 14m), thus, forms a production pattern of “1 dock, 2 slipways, and 3 wharfs”. Moreover, XSI owns many large-capacity outdoor lifting equipments, including 5 sets of gantry cranes (1 set with 800tons-SWL, 2 sets with 300tons-SWL, 1 set with 200tons-SWL, and 1 set with 100tons-SWL) and many other advanced shipbuilding equipments.
XSI has nearly 1,900 proficient staff members, of which more than 250 employees with medium or high level professional titles, in addition, XSI hires several subcontractors with over 3,000 workers totally.
The registered capital of XSI is RMB 250million, the annual output is 1,200,000 DWT, and the annual production value is about RMB 5billion. Except for the shipbuilding business, XSI also involves in the businesses of fabricating and installing of steel structures, ship repairing, manufacturing of the offshore oil industry equipments, and computer software developing and consulting, etc..
3.Production Techniques & Arrangement
The workplace in XSI has been planned and arranged according to the requirements of modern shipbuilding mode, the general arrangement fully presents the modern shipbuilding concept of organizing and carrying out shipbuilding practices both in spatial and chronological orders and integrating the processes of hull construction, outfitting and painting.
In construction methods, XSI implements “precision shipbuilding method”, “frame construction method” and “regional management method”, etc., while in construction techniques, XSI adopts advanced techniques such as, new techniques in hull frame construction, grand assembly technique in block construction, and the technique of allowance-free keel-laying, etc.. And, in production design, XSI has set up an advanced CAD system.
4.History & Achievements
The history of XSI is more than 150 years. It was established in 1858, invested by a British merchant. At that time it was named Xiamen Dock Company, which, then, owned China’s first 1000DWT dry dock. It was taken over by Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co. in 1983. In 1996, in order to meet the necessity of the transformation of old urban area in Xiamen island, XSI moved to Haicang District where it’s located now, and started to build 820TEU container vessel exported to Germany and 30,000DWT multi-purpose heavy lift container vessel which was named “one of the world’s top ten excellent ship types -2000”. Since then, XSI became a 100% export-oriented shipbuilding enterprise, and won the CSSC’s award for progress in science and technology.
In 2002, under the sponsorship of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co. and joined by Fujian Mindong Electric Power Co., Ltd., Xiamen C&D Inc., Chongqing Iron & Steel Co., Ltd, and Xiamen Mingshun Trade Co., Ltd. (shareholders), XSI was established. During this period, XSI mainly produced 50,000DWT bulk carriers exported to England. In 2004, XSI began to build 4,900 Car PCTC, which was known as “Xiamen Type” in shipbuilding field with the characteristics of smooth outline and high quality, and it won many honors for both XSI and Xiamen. Xiamen was awarded as “National Export Base of Ships” because of this type of vessel. Until now, 18 ships of this type of vessel have been delivered.
Since 2012, XSI had successfully carried out strategic transformation, strived to develop offshore engineering vessels, and had received many orders from Malaysia, Singapore, etc. for the construction of various types of offshore engineering vessels. So far, XSI has constructed 200 Men accommodation vessels, 300 Men accommodation vessels, 75M PSVs, 78M PSVs and 99.8M accommodation/inspection/maintenance/repair vessels, etc., in addition, XSI has also constructed 600DWT marine surveillance vessels and 1,000DWT fishery administration vessels for China government. In 2013, with the advantages of being in the leading position of building PCTCs, XSI further improved its techniques in PCTC building practices, and obtained an order from a European ship owner for the construction of 8 ships of 8,500 Car PCTCs, which is the world’s largest PCTC presently. Consequently, the project brought new development momentum for XSI.
The products of XSI are mainly exported to Europe, America, Southeast Asia, etc.. Their quality has got the certificate from DNV-GL, LR, ABS, BV, NK, CCS, etc., and also from Hong Kong Marine Bureau. XSI has established the ISO9001 quality control system in 2006, established ISO9001/OHSAS18001 quality and occupational health safety control system in 2009, and in Nov. 2010, XSI pioneered to implement “QEO” in the shipbuilding industry. “QEO”, shorts for Quality/Environment/Safety, which is an integrative system of ISO9001/ISO14001/OHSAS18001.
5.Culture & Mission
With more than 150 years’ development, XSI has formed an excellent cultural tradition.
